01Who we are
Ascendant Build Pty Ltd is a construction and renovation company working across Greater Sydney. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean that company. "You" means anyone who contacts us, engages us, or uses this website.

02The standard we hold ourselves to
We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
Many small businesses in Australia sit under a turnover threshold that exempts them from that Act. We do not treat that as a reason to do less. You are letting people into your home, and often photographing the inside of it is part of the job — the standard should be the same either way.
03What we collect
When you enquire
- Your name, phone number and email address
- The address of the property, and whether you own or rent it
- What you want done, and photos you send us of the problem
- Your budget range and rough timing, if you tell us
When we quote and build
- Site measurements, photographs and video of the property, inside and out
- Plans, engineer's reports, survey and strata documents you give us
- Council, certifier and approval correspondence about your property
- Contract, variation and payment records, including bank details for transfers
- Access arrangements — keys, alarm codes, pets, when you are home
We do not ask for information we have no use for. We do not collect government identifiers such as a tax file number, and we do not collect health or other sensitive information unless you raise something that affects the work, such as an access requirement in a bathroom.
When you use this website
Your browser sends technical data — IP address, device type, browser, pages viewed, and the site you arrived from. Section 08 covers what we do with that.
04How we collect it
Directly from you, nearly always: the enquiry form on this site, the callback form, WhatsApp, a phone call, an email, or a conversation on site during the free consultation.
Sometimes from other people, with your knowledge — a strata manager, a real estate agent, an architect, an engineer, or the person who referred you. If someone gives us your details so we can call you, we will tell you who on the first call.
05Why we use it
- To call you back and arrange the on-site consultation
- To work out a fixed price and put it in writing
- To order materials, book trades and run your job
- To meet our obligations under the Home Building Act 1989 (NSW), including contracts, insurance and certificates
- To keep the records a statutory warranty claim would need later
- To answer a question or a defect report after handover
- To send you the photo updates we promise each Friday while you are on site with us
We do not sell your information. Not to lead brokers, not to "matching" services, not to anyone.
06Photographs of your property
This is the part most privacy policies skip, and it is the part that matters most in this trade.
We photograph every job. Before we start, while walls are open, and on handover day. Those photographs exist first as a record: they are how a defect is traced back to what was behind the plasterboard, and how a warranty claim is settled without an argument.
Using your job in our marketing
We only publish photographs of your property — on this website, on Instagram, or in an advertisement — if you have agreed to it in writing. That agreement is a separate line in your contract, and you can say no without it changing anything about your price or your job.
Where you do agree, we still never publish your name, your street number, or anything that identifies which house is yours beyond the suburb, unless you specifically tell us we can. Change your mind later and email us — we will take it down.
Photographs of trades working on your site are ours to use. Photographs of you and your family are not, and we do not take them.
07Who else sees it
A building job cannot be done by one person, so parts of your information go to the people doing the work:
- Subcontractors and trades — the electrician, plumber, tiler or waterproofer on your job gets your address, your access arrangements and the scope they are quoting
- Engineers, surveyors and private certifiers — where the job needs a design, an inspection or a certificate
- Your local council — for a Development Application or a Complying Development Certificate
- icare HBCF and our insurers — for home warranty cover on residential work over $20,000, and for public liability
- Suppliers — for delivery to your address
- Our accountant and, if it ever comes to it, our lawyers
- Government bodies — where the law requires it, such as NSW Fair Trading or a court order
Everyone in that list gets the minimum they need to do their part, and no more.
08This website, cookies and advertising
This site is a plain HTML page. It sets no cookies of its own and has no login, no cart and no account.
We use, or intend to use, these third-party tools. Each one is switched off until its ID is entered in our configuration, so if it is not listed as active below it is not running:
- Google Analytics 4 — how many people visit and which pages they read
- Google Tag Manager — the container that loads the others
- Meta Pixel and Conversions API — so we can tell whether a Facebook or Instagram ad produced an enquiry
- Google Ads conversion tracking — the same for search ads
These set cookies and share your device identifier and browsing on this site with Google and Meta, who are overseas and hold that data outside Australia under their own terms. We use them to measure advertising, not to build a profile of you.
You can block them: turn on "Do Not Track" or an ad blocker, use your browser's cookie settings, install Google's opt-out add-on, or change your ad settings inside Facebook and Instagram. Nothing on this site stops working if you do.
The WhatsApp button opens WhatsApp. Anything you send there is handled by Meta under WhatsApp's own privacy terms.
09Marketing, and how to stop it
If you enquire or become a client, we may contact you about your job, a follow-up, or occasionally something we think is relevant — a reminder that your statutory warranty is running out, for instance.
Every marketing email we send carries our real name, a working reply address and an unsubscribe link, as the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) requires. Ask to be taken off the list and you are off it, by the next send at the latest. Reply "stop" to a text, or email us, whichever is easier.
We do not cold-call numbers on the Do Not Call Register.
10How long we keep it
Enquiries that never became a job: two years, then deleted.
Jobs we built: at least seven years after practical completion. That is deliberate. The NSW statutory warranty runs six years for major defects, and tax law wants five. If a crack appears in year five, the photographs of what went in behind that wall are what protects both of us.
After that we delete or de-identify, except where a dispute, a claim or the law requires us to keep it longer.
11Keeping it safe
Files are held in access-controlled cloud storage with multi-factor authentication. Paper — signed contracts, certificates — is kept locked. Phones and laptops that hold job files are passcoded and can be wiped remotely. Only people who need a file can open it.
No system is perfect. If a breach happens that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.
12Seeing it, and correcting it
Email us and ask. You can get a copy of the personal information we hold about you, have anything wrong corrected, ask us to delete what we no longer need, or withdraw your consent to us publishing photographs of your property.
We will respond within 30 days, and there is no charge. We may ask you to confirm who you are first — we are not handing your job file to someone who says they are you over email.
13If you are not happy
Tell us first. Email build@ascendant-build.com with "Privacy" in the subject line and we will come back to you within 30 days with what we found and what we are doing.
If that does not resolve it, take it to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner: oaic.gov.au, or 1300 363 992.
14Changes to this policy
When we change it, the date at the top changes with it. If a change materially affects how we handle information we already hold about you, we will tell you directly rather than quietly updating the page.
